THE NEW ARRIVAL

Baby Alastair John arrived on schedule weighing in a 7 1/2 pounds. Here he is with Mum, just new into the world. We all marvel at how nature manages to get the birth process started once full term is reached – nothing short of a miracle!

Because this baby arrived on the correctly calculated date we are all geared up for the re-jigging it inevitably involves in all of our various routines. Mairi had just stopped work and is now on maternity leave for 9 months; John had scheduled his work ahead of time knowing he would be taking some paternity leave; and we were on Stand By to take wee Ishie.

He is a beautiful baby boy! Nicely proportioned features and soft, soft skin! Long fingers – have we a piper in the making?

Wee Ishie is 13 months and is a busy, busy little person learning to walk and move up and down stairs. She find the crying of this new person in her life very noisy! She is a happy, cheery little girl; we wonder if this little brother is perhaps more on the quiet side? He somehow just feels that way ... easy-going like his uncle Alastair in Vancouver. M-m-m, I wonder if that has anything to do with both being second babies?
The two of us taking turns to hold the baby. (In my day one was never allowed to do this! How practices change!)

Congratulations All :) What a lot of hair has wee Ali (mine were bald). I notice that the women are feeling a bit more at ease than the men and that Ishi just isn't sure what to make of it all. But, no doubt, this has changed even since these photos were taken. You're right, Barb - new life is miraculous. Best wishes and enjoy :) (Alice P)
