JOHN MUIR'S SCOTLAND

John Muir, the man who campaigned in the mid 19th century in California to get the National Park movement started, was born in Dunbar, East Lothian, Scotland.

This photo shows his birthplace where there is a most excellent museum and exhibition centre.

He was interested in what is now known as 'conservation' in the countryside. To that end, the John Muir Trust has been established. Details and history are here.

JMT owns and manages 59,000 acres of wild land in eight key areas in the Highlands and Islands of Scotland (Ben Nevis, Knoydart, Sandwood, Schihallion and other places).

These are John's lovely photographs of various locations in - mostly remote - parts of Scotland.

HARBOUR BLUES

The fishing nets on the quayside of Dunbar Harbour caught my eye. Nice when in a pile on a sunny day; not so nice when shreds appear in the tideline.

IRIS EYES ARE SMILING

Tove's garden was full of colour. What could be richer than purple irses?

BEE CAUSE

Lovely weather and the bees are out. This first shot is in our own garden - blue Ceanothus.

We paid a visit to Tove and Robert Russell, East Lothian, whose garden was just buzzing with activity. I don't know the name of the first (pink) flower. The next one is comfry and the last one is broom. Both latter varities are the lovely reddish type, not the more common yellow.
