GRASS: CENTRE COURT vs THE BACK GARDEN

A very quiet Sunday today. Why? At 3 pm the Wimbledon Final match was on with every person in this part of the world glued to the television to see if Scotland's local lad (from Dunblaine) would pull it off.  I came in from the heat for the final hour of Murray playing  Novak Djokovic.  Both deserved to win but in the end it was, indeed, Andy Murray.

As the papers say "Murray was willed on by the majority of the 15,000 spectators on Centre Court, [with] thousands watching on the nearby big screen and millions more around the country." It's all very historical as it is 77 years since there was a Brtish men's champion at Wimbledon.

It was so very hot today! After cutting the grass I said to Iain "What I would like is a swim in the Shuswap Lake!"  However I parked myself in the shade with another book by Carlos Ruiz Zafon.  It is The Angel's Game.  I came to enjoy his story-telling through his well-known book Shadow in the Wind.  The setting for these novels is Barcelona. He's a great writer and I also really like the excellent translations by Lucia Graves.

The view of the house from my seat in the shade.  Iain is in the garage (left) Black and Deckering (a new verb I have coined).

A bumble bee for company.

The first bloom on this particular rose bush which is loaded with buds.

I caught up with all your past posts. Congratulation on your blog anniversary – 2007! That is a long time. You were the first blog I ever read – before I had a blog myself. You were born on May 10th? My newest little grand-daughter was born last May 10th, 8 ½ pounds. Now I have 4 grandchildren (from our youngest daughter) a 7 years old, an almost 5 years old, a 2 years old on July 13 and the baby girl (3 boys and 1 girl.)
You play Ravel’s Bolero? Bravo. I used to play the piano when I was a teenager, had to go and play at Salle Pleyel in Paris and I was terrified. My parents had a summer house in Normandy in Mers-les-Bains, 35 km from Dieppe. Once I went in the castle in Dieppe and they let me play on Camille Saint SaĆ«ns’ piano which he gave to the castle/museum there (his father was from Dieppe.) I don’t think you can get near the piano now.
Baby Harriet is so sweet looking, just about a month younger than our little granddaughter. I crocheted two blankets for her (showed them on my blog on May 23 (http://avagabonde.blogspot.com/2013/05/happenings-in-georgia-and-tennessee.html ) I am watching the Tour de France every morning and knitting additional blankets. Thanks for coming to my blog – I am finally finished with my trilogy on San Francisco.
